Despite US efforts to derail the Beijing Olympics – It was business as usual for China and its allies

17.02.2022

The sign of a failing Empire is when it projects itself as a bastion of “democracy and human rights” but is devoid of a moral compass. The US which has been on a perpetual war footing since its existence is now preparing for war with China and Russia. It is against this background that the Beijing Olympics has been politicised and weaponized by US and its 5 Eyes allies, because as notorious billionaire George Soros warned it “will score a propaganda victory “for China.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, a first major global sports event held since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, has been described as symbolic for two reasons; It is the first country in the Global South, not subservient to US dictates, to host the Winter Olympics, which has historically been dominated by western powers; secondly, China has demonstrated its strength and resilience by organising a major event against an orchestrated, aggressive belligerent orientalist stance by United States and its allies Britain, Canada Australia, who are retaliating at the shifting geopolitical balance of power in the region led by China’s growing economic power.

Undeterred and supported by regional allies like Russia, Iran, Pakistan Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan the Beijing Olympics opened with an amazing bewitching spectacle under the slogan of “building a community with a shared future for mankind”. The same slogan which also underlies the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which acknowledges humanity’s shared future and a multi-polar world as opposed to the US’s drive for dominating hegemonic control.

The US politicises and weaponizes everything which poses a challenge to its dominant position. The BRI is viewed as the biggest threat because it aims at alleviating poverty through trade and economic projects helping build infrastructure in poverty ridden underdeveloped nations. Which for the US means countries moving out of the western stranglehold of IMF and World Bank debt system which ensures western institutions benefit. It is for this reason Soros, notorious for funding ‘colour revolutions’ in nations that will not bend to the US’s will, is calling out a western instigated “regime change” in China.

In the same way the US has been trying to muster up allies against the BRI, hoping countries like Vietnam and Laos, will forget the destruction and legacy of cancer and birth defects left behind after its imposed war in 1955, the US has been just as busy trying to derail the Beijing Olympics.

According to Tom Fowdy a political analyst the anti-China media campaign has been relentless, he states that in 2021 “the BBC published in English at least 51 articles on the Xinjiang autonomous region and the ‘Uyghur Genocide’, amounting to nearly one a week”. Most of the reports were “atrocity-driven emotional headlines” with “identifiable patterns… that conveniently overlap with certain foreign policy developments or objectives of London and Washington”.

While the US and its 5 Eyes allies focused on pressurising private companies and governments to not support or participate in the Beijing Olympics. In an under-handed move even though the US instigated a ‘diplomatic boycott’ it could not pass by an opportunity to send its government officials, probably mostly CIA operatives to attend the games.

The sad fact is the diplomatic boycott is just a duplicitous ploy to tarnish the Olympics, because behind the scenes the US did submit according to The South China Morning Post a list of up to 46 US government officials to attend. One can only speculate why would US pass up an opportunity to enter China and carry out its nefarious activity. Especially as Soros has already indicated that the West needs to carry out regime change in China and hinted that 2022 as a “critical year in the history of the world.” and “We are at, or close to, important decisions that will determine the direction in which the world is going”.

The Olympics did successfully take off and as Thomas Bach of the international Olympic Committee states, “By delivering a simple, safe and splendid event, China demonstrated that choosing Beijing as the host city "really is a safe choice,". He also added the international community once again witnessed that the Chinese people's words can be counted on, and China can be trusted.

The attendance at the Beijing Olympics reflected the “us and them” rhetoric set out by George Bush’s war on terror policies which outlined ‘if you do not follow the dictates of western powers than you are against “Us”.

On one side the ‘diplomatic boycotters’ were countries who had an unsavoury past of colonialism and indigenous genocide underlying an arrogant white supremacist ethos. While those who attended were mainly Prime Ministers and government officials from developing countries keen to be part of the BRI, realising that the only way they can develop economically is to remove themselves from the yoke of US imperialism.

The virulent propaganda against China did not deter Prime ministers and government officials to meet on the side-lines of the Olympics to sign trades deals incorporating them into the Silk Route. Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan who attend the opening ceremony also met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping to sign deals to cement what is called “phase two” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Russia and China also further consolidated their partnership with President Putin in attendance at the ceremony. Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar were also present as China is Saudi Arabia’s largest buyer of oil and a significant customer of Qatar’s natural gas. Latin American countries like Cuba and Nicaragua have also moved closer to China as the economic situation worsens under the IMF stranglehold with Ecuador and Argentina are already in talks with China seeking debt relief and aiming to be part of the Belt and Road Initiative.

While world leaders met on the side-lines of the Olympics on business-as-usual basis, the disgruntled West attempted to lead a diplomatic boycott of the Olympics on China’s alleged human right abuses in Xinjian Province against Muslim Uyghurs. The allegations have been ridiculed by most of the Muslim world, who have already witnessed US and NATO’s War on Terror policies aimed at destroying Muslim countries, killing millions of people in Iraq Afghanistan Syria Sudan Somalia and Yemen not only through bombs but economic and medical sanctions causing death through starvation and diseases like cholera.

It is for this reason western powers are being accused of losing their moral compass, if they had any to begin with, considering their historical legacy of land grab and mass genocide of indigenous peoples. It appears the US and the mainstream media is conveniently only concerned about human rights of Muslims in the Xinjian Province, the fact that Amnesty has reported human right abuses of Palestinians by Israel; or the fact the UN has reported Yemen suffering a humanitarian crisis worsened by the US supported economic blockade killing Yemeni Muslim children through starvation is of no concern to Western governments and its media.

It is for this reason the US’s crocodile tears for an alleged unproven genocide of Muslim Uyghurs are being ridiculed internationally. The real reason for this so-called boycott is because Xinjian Province is central to the BRI as it links China to Pakistan and is a critical area for oil and gas pipelines, through which raw materials pour into China from Central Asian states.

The CIA has been financing the Uyghur Congress separatist movement for years following a report in 2003 by CIA operative Graham Fuller who suggested to use the “Uyghur card” which involves funding Uyghur insurgency in Xinjian Province to destabilise China and now the BRI projects.

Before even 2022 started the Biden administration allocated 770 billion dollars for military spending, citing China as being the reason. At the same time the US has over 700 military bases surrounding China and is continually stoking the fires of war against China and as recently witnessed in Ukraine against Russia. Former United Nations diplomat Alfred Maurice de Zayas condemned what he called the “universal provocation” of the US “war budget”. De Zayas points out that the United States is guilty of undermining global peace and security through its relentless militarism…neither China nor Russia has threatened the US instead they have continually proposed multilateralism and “win-win” cooperation.

As one tweet which went viral states: ‘While US continues to bomb and destroy infrastructure and kill innocent people, China continues to build alliances, trade routes and infrastructure that will benefit poor developing nations.

A study by Refinitiv, the world’s largest provider of financial markets data and infrastructure, found that, as of 2019, over $516 billion worth of BRI projects have been completed with 2,631 different projects across the world, in more than 120 countries are being successfully implemented.

As the Beijing Olympics have highlighted the ‘us and them’ narrative promoted by the US is failing and losing credibility, exposing it has no moral compass; the latest being when 10 Afghans were killed by a US drone attack while US was attempting to leave Afghanistan. US politician Ilhan Omar tweeted “Not one person punished for killing 10 innocent people including 7 children”. Meanwhile Daniel Hale, a former intelligence contractor “gets 45 months in prison for sharing information about our drone wars. What does this say to the families of children killed by drones what does it say to our allies”. Well, is it any wonder the allies are now looking towards a new political system emerging with a strong China and Russia in the lead promoting a multi-polar world built on peaceful cooperation?

However, these are dangerous times as Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin warns because “the unipolar world, the global liberal ideology and the hegemony of the West are collapsing” and they “are willing to do anything - even World War III - to somehow prevent it.”
